Astronomy for Astrology,3 Primary Coordinate Systems

The Three Primary Astrological Coordinate Systems:

Ecliptic Coordinate System

Equatorial Coordinates

Horizon Coordinate System

Ecliptic Coordinates -- In this system, the ecliptic or plane through the Earth's orbit is taken as the plane of reference. The co-ordinates used are Celestial Latitude (the perpendicular distance of the object from the ecliptic in angular measure) and Celestial Longitude (the angular distance along the ecliptic between the plane through the object and the First Point of Aries). The Solstitial Colure is the great circle which passes through the summer and winter solstices (the hour circle of R.A. 90° and 270°).

Celestial Latitude (Ecliptic Latitude) -- The angular distance of any object measured north or south of the plane of the ecliptic to the poles, from 0° to 90°.

Celestial Longitude (Ecliptic Longitude) -- The angular distance of any object as measured from zero Aries to a plane through an object.

Equatorial Coordinates -- In this system, the Earth's Equator is the plane of reference. The poles are at the intersection of the Earth's pole and the pole of the celestial sphere, an imaginary surface at an infinite distance with the Earth as its center. This is true for all points on the Earth, latitude and longitude. The poles are the North Celestial Pole (NCP) and South Celestial Pole (SCP). The circle at the intersection of the plane of the Earth's equator and the celestial sphere is the Celestial Equator.

Right Ascension (R.A.) -- The angle between an hour circle passing through an object and the meridian plane, in the case of equatorial coordinates, zero degrees of Aries. R.A. is measured eastward on the celestial equator from what is called the True Equinox to the body in question. R.A. is expressed in either degrees (0° to 360°) or in Hours-Minutes-Seconds (0h to 24h).

Declination -- The angular distance of any object measured north or south of the plane of the celestial equator, from 0° to 90°.

Horizon Coordinates -- In this system a plane through the observing point parallel to the horizon is the plane of reference. The poles are the Zenith (point overhead) and the Nadir (point underfoot). The vertical circle through a celestial object (such as a star) and the zenith is the Object Circle. The coordinates are given (for the object) by Azimuth (horizontal angle measured from an arbitrary reference direction -- East in our case -- counterclockwise to the object circle) and the Altitude (elevation angle measured upward from the horizon to the object). The great circle through the north and south points and the zenith is the Meridian, and the great circle through the east and west points and the zenith is the Prime Vertical. Circles of parallel altitude to the horizon that are not great circles are called Almucantars.

Altitude -- The angular distance of any body above or below the plane of the local horizon. Altitude is measured from 0° to 90° from the plane of the horizon to either pole.

Azimuth -- The angle measured around the 360° circumference of the horizon, either east or west (there are different practices). The azimuth of an object as measured from the meridian plane of the observer and a vertical plane through any body.

The Basics – The Ecliptic, The Equator And Coordinate Systems

note:

While we, as astrologers, use Celestial Longitude divided into the Zodiac to define horizontal coordinates, astronomers generally use Right Ascension. As with Celestial Latitude, measurement begins with 0° corresponding to the point of the Vernal Equinox. However, where Celestial Latitude measures counter-clockwise, Right Ascension measures clockwise from this point, with the measurement being expressed either in degrees, minutes, and seconds of arc, or in hours, minutes, and seconds of time. In any event, it is still a system which used the Earth as its center of reference. Why that’s logical and okay for astronomical measurement, but irrational and not okay for astrological measurement is beyond me!

http://astrologyclub.org/ecliptic-equator-coordinate-systems/

I definitely think Right Ascension is logical and okay for astrological measurement, and I have been using Right Ascension in Astrology since 2009.

It's definitely a coordinate that is highly overlooked and dismissed in Astrology.

God and Astrology

  God and Astrology

I believe that there is a place for God in Astrology. I am a strong believer in God. I don't believe in "old man high in the sky watching over us" God though. I believe in God as everything and that it is in everything. That means that I am a pantheist. Sometimes, I refer to God as the universe. I might even just use the word, the divine. I could even say that it's nature itself. Pan is the Greek God of Nature, and Pan means "all"

Because of my belief in pantheism, I believe that we all connected through the divine energy that I believe is in every one of us. I believe that Astrology works because everything in existence is connected to each other, and so that includes the heavenly bodies. That's why I even believe that asteroids(even personal name asteroids) work in Astrology. I believe that God is both female and male....the yin and yang. I believe that a positive always to have a negative and vice versa. The positive and negative balance each other out that it's neutral. We see that with negative integers and positive integers. a negative integer of a number plus the positive integer of the number ( - 1 + 1 = 0). The number zero has no beginning nor end just like I believe that time, space, and cosmos has no beginning nor end. Both positive and negative integers go to infinity. There is no beginning nor end to numbers. I believe that life is infinite itself as it goes in cycles. Once it reaches the end of 1 cycle,it goes to another. I even believe that concept applies to birth, death, rebirth concept of reincarnation which I am a believer in. I also believe in parallel universes, and I believe that there is an infinite number of universes. I believe that all of us have counterparts in parallel universes too. I even believe that with all these infinite parallel universes, there are infinite possibilities of how our lives can manifest. Therefore, I believe that our potential is infinite. I even believe that every moment, the actions we take actually even lead us to transference to one parallel universe to another and to another, but we don't realize it. It's like going back in time, but when you go back, it's like you never left. Nothing has changed except your thoughts, feelings to your surroundings which can be connected to change in frequencies which can be due to unconscious shift to another universe parallel to the one that we were previously in. I even believe that our imaginations actually help us tap into these parallel universes. I believe that the dreamworld is actually a parallel universe where the laws of physics don't apply, and so things like flying can easily happen with just a thought.

We can say that 3Dimensional objects have no end because of overlapping sides. We can go in various directions and go to the end which can also be a beginning like the corner of a table as you go down a side and get to the end, you're at a corner which is also beginning of another side. Of course, objects that are round have no sides and corners, and no matter how you turn it, it looks the same. That's how I view God. No matter how we perceive God from certain sides, angles, I believe that it's still the same God. It's our perceptions of God what makes God to be different. I believe that applies to everything else because God is all.

I believe that Astrology is a form of divination in that the divine could give us messages and information. I believe that the divine could give us messages and information through Numerology, Tarot, Palmistry, Channeling, Mediumism and other things. I don't believe that a belief in Astrology and other divination systems contradicts the concept of God.

I believe that the heavenly bodies in our solar system are archetypal energies, and that the myths, legends can help us understand the archetypes that are within us. I believe that the sky is reflection of ourselves. Therefore, I believe what goes on in the sky, goes on inside us. I believe in synchronicity like Carl Jung believed in.

Because I believe that the sky is reflection of ourselves and we are born with the same objects at the time, we are the same for are composed by the same energies. The variations of our levels are reflected by our different heavenly body positions. We all have the same aspects, but they are just in different angular relations which reflect the varying levels of our potential which can be viewed as weaknesses and strengths from a relative standpoint.

We can look at the chart from various angles like we can look at it from ecliptical longitude(zodiac sign placements),ecliptical latitude, equatorial longitude (Right Ascension which astronomers use instead of ecliptic longitude),equatorial latitude(declinations which astronomers use and some astrologers use),horizon coordinates (coordinates from the view of your location),and others. There could be infinite amount of coordinates, but there are just few made and used because they make sense because it's neat, orderly, and sequential - linear concept. Infinite, unlimited, chaos, disorder are all nonlinear concepts. When when we consider all these coordinates, we will find more aspects that mirror the similarities that we have with other. Therefore, it's true that if we look hard enough, we will find it. That's just how the universe works. It's infinite, and so there are infinite ways to look at things. The possibilities are infinite. The possibilities of the people that we interact with are infinite. The experiences that we have are infinite.

In a way, I believe that Astrology is finding information through God by analyzing the sky.

Michael Star points out the following in his article, Stars For Signs:

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:"

- Genesis 1:14 in King James Version of The Bible

Sometimes I wonder if the people who quote the Bible to condemn Astrology have ever read what is on the very first page? It says God made these heavenly bodies to show us "signs" of His intentions, and those signs are there for anyone to read, if they would only learn how to interpret them.

That is what Astrology is all about - interpreting the signs in the motions of the sun, moon, and "wandering" stars. And that is why Kings and Popes have consulted Astrologers throughout the entire recorded history of mankind. In ancient times these wise counselors were called Magi (wise men) or Chaldeans, since many of the wise men who knew the principles of Astrology were from the land of known as Chaldea.

http://www.astrologyzine.com/astrology-bible.shtml

My studies in Astrology have actually helped strengthened my belief in God.

I will tell you straight up....I am really into Asteroids, and I really believe that the asteroids (especially the personal name asteroids) can fine-tune messages that God give us through Astrology. I believe planets by themselves can be very vague.

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) Zodiac Is Not So Cut and Dry

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) Zodiac aka 13 Sign Zodiac is not so cut and dry even though the zodiac takes all the 13 zodiac ecliptic constellations into account.

Some of the IAU zodiac signs have stars of other zodiac constellations including their alpha and beta stars.

In my astrological nativity:

I have Imum Coeli in 11'14 Tropical Sagittarius in Ophiuchus in the IAU Zodiac, but it is conjunct the star, tau Scorpii in 11'03 Sagittarius.

It has a magnitude of 2.8.

Paikauhale is the Hawai'ian name for it. In the Hawai'ian dictionary by Puku'i & Elbert (1986), the word paikauhale means to go gadding about from house to house. In another Hawai'ian dictionary (H.W. Kent, 1993, "Treasury of Hawaiian Words in One Hundred and One Categories", p.367), paikauhale is listed with definition Vagabond owning no home; house-to-house wanderer.

In some astronomical references, the star designated Tau Scorpii had the name "Alniyat" or "Al Niyat", which was duplicative (and now considered obsolete) with the star designated σ Scorpii (now with IAU name "Alniyat")

The indigenous Boorong people of northwestern Victoria saw this star (together with σ Sco) as wives of Djuit (Antares).

In Chinese, 心宿 (Xīn Xiù), meaning Heart, refers to an asterism consisting of τ Scorpii, σ Scorpii and Antares.[21] Consequently, τ Scorpii itself is known as 心宿三 (Xīn Xiù sān), "the Third Star of Heart"

I have North Lunar Node in 10'29 Tropical Aquarius in Capricorn in the IAU Zodiac, but is is conjunct the star, episilon Aquarii Albali in 11'20 Aquarius.

It has a magnitude of 3.8

It is in the left hand of the Water Bearer.

Al Bali was the brightest star of the 21st manzil (Arabic Moon Mansion), Al Sa'd al Bula', the Good Fortune of the Swallower, which included mu (μ) and nu (ν); these last also known as Al Bulaan in the dual. The 13th century Persian astronomical writer Al Kazwini said that this strange title came from the fact that the two outside stars were more open than alpha (α) Giedi Prima and beta (β) Dahib of Capricornus, {p.54} so that they seemed to swallow, or absorb, the light of the otheIn the catalogue of stars in the Calendarium of Al Achsasi al Mouakket, it was designated Nir Saad Bula (نير سعد ألبلع nayyir sa'd al bulaʽ), which was translated into Latin as Lucida Fortunæ Dissipantis, meaning "the brightest of luck of the swallower".

In Chinese, 女宿 (Nǚ Sù), meaning Girl (asterism), refers to an asterism consisting of Epsilon Aquarii, Mu Aquarii, 4 Aquarii, 5 Aquarii and 3 Aquarii.[14] Consequently, Epsilon Aquarii itself is known as 女宿一 (Nǚ Sù yī, English: the First Star of Girl)r.

The Alpha Pisces star, Alrisha is in Aries in the IAU Zodiac.

The Alpha Scorpius star Antares is in Ophiuchus in the IAU Zodiac.

The Beta Aquarius star Sadalsuud is in Capricorn in the IAU Zodiac.

The IAU Constellation boundaries are based on what Eugene Delporte had drawn up in 1930 on behalf of the IAU and published in in Délimitation scientifique des constellations (Cambridge University Press). Before Delporte's work, there was no standard list of the boundaries of each constellation.

Eugene Delporte drew the boundaries along vertical and horizontal lines of right ascension and declination; however, he did so for the epoch B1875.0 which means that due to precession of the equinoxes, the borders on a modern star map (e.g., for epoch J2000) are already somewhat skewed and no longer perfectly vertical or horizontal.

The IAU 13 Sign Zodiac’s boundaries have nothing to do with ecliptic longitude which is the coordinate that contains the zodiac signs (Tropical Zodiac and 12 Sign Sidereal Zodiac). They have to do with Right Ascension and Declination which are the coordinates that Astronomers mainly use to locate celestial objects. The borders of these boundaries are already off. Using an ecliptic longitude 13 sign zodiac based off of Right and Declination doesn’t make any sense. As I already pointed out, the 13 sign zodiac signs have stars from other constellations. Alpha Scorpius star Antares in Ophiuchus in the IAU 13 zodiac is a glaring issue. I am definitely not going to be telling Alpha Scorpions that they are Ophiuchans, and so no 13 Sign Zodiac for me.

Section 1 - Working with the Sky and Stars

The Stars Delineated In this Book

There are over 9,000 stars in the sky visible to the naked eye and one is always faced with the question of which stars to use. When I first started working with fixed stars, I assumed that only the brightest stars would be important, but although all the bright stars with magnitudes 1 or brighter are important, so too are stars which are quite faint and hard to see even on a good night. Another approach was the idea that possibly only the stars in the zodiac belt were important for astrologers, but this was also proved to be incorrect.

What I have found is that the stars seem to contribute a consistent and reliable symbolism across diverse groups, from the famous and celebrated, to one's clients' -- and even one's pets' charts, are the stars that are mythologically "bright." The stars that hold, for different reasons, a great deal of mythology. Like, for example, Alkes, a small star in The Cracter with a magnitude of only 4.08. For reasons not totally clear, it carries the mythology of the grial, or the cauldron, with all of its stories and mysticism. And it carries this rich symbolism to every planet it touches.

Thus the 64 stars given here are the set that I have worked with over the last fifteen years, and I have only allowed a star membership in the group if it shows a consistent symbolic application. Other astrologers may of course choose to work with more or less stars. If you are new to fixed star work then you may want to start with just the bright stars (each star's magnitude is listed with its other details) to help you first to become familiar with a smaller group.

Astrology Is More Than Just A Science

Astrology Is More Than Just A Science

I believe Astrology is a science in that it is based on the sciences of not only Astronomy but Mathematics. Without astronomers discovering heavenly bodies in our solar system, we wouldn't be using them in Astrology. Without mathematics, astrological charts wouldn't be able to be calculated. Without mathematics, astronomers wouldn't be able to find out the positions of the heavenly bodies as they rely on mathematical calculations/formulas. Of course, aspects, midpoints, and planetary pictures are based on geometry which is a form of mathematics.

The interpretation of the chart is more of an art and language. There are many ways to interpret a chart. There are many ways to interpret an aspect. Heavenly bodies are assigned certain traits, characteristics, and rulerships which provide numerous variations of interpreting aspects. If you look in a Rex E. Bill's rulership book, rulerships of a planet covers over 5 pages. It's the interpretation of the chart that critics of astrology might even argue could be so general that it can apply to anybody. The Barnum/Forer Effect.

I believe that Astrology can be form of psychology as it helps study personality and human behavior. In that way, I believe that Astrology can be a social science. I wouldn't use it as form of psychiatry to help diagnosed people as having psychiatric disorders. I don't see it as form of neurology to understand how the brain works. Of course, psychiatric disorders and neurodivergence greatly overlap in symptoms/traits, and so it's very difficult to distinguish those things from looking at a chart. Even the "afflicted" Neptune aspects don't necessarily mean a psychiatric disorder. Those aspects are common in people that are misdiagnosed including having misdiagnoses of psychiatric disorders. Besides, psychiatry doesn't even recognize the metaphysical. Even people that are actual mystics, psychics can be viewed as psychotics, schizophrenics and get diagnosed as such.

I believe that Astrology can be a form of religion. A lot of astrologers cling on to ideas that are contrary to what scientists say. There is so much disagreement about what even works in Astrology. Some types of Astrology is based on religion. Evolutionary Astrology is based on the beliefs of reincarnation,past-lives,and karma. The stuff that I have read from Jeffrey Wolf Green and Maurice Fernandez seems even a bit dogmatic. Vedic Astrology is based on religious scriptures called the Vedas. There are astrological systems that even use hypothetical planets that astronomers haven't even discovered yet and aren't likely to exist, but they believe that they work. Some people have written books about Transpluto which is planet based on the mistakes of astronomers and has now been proven not to exist. Of course, many people who have a belief in Astrology are viewed as believing in a delusion because they believe that Astrology is a pseudoscience that is based on outdated "knowledge" about our solar system. Old systems based on old knowledge tends to be replaced by new systems based on new knowledge. Even now, majority of Astrologers are using a system that is not updated based on the new discoveries of astronomers. Since 1992, astronomers have been discovering other transneptunian objects, but a vast majority of astrologers show little interest in them. Even after the turn of the 21st century, more transneptunian objects were discovered including big ones, astrologers still weren't interested in them. Even after 2006, there are professional astrologers that didn't even know about Eris which made great news as an object larger than Pluto and got Pluto demoted as dwarf planet. Astrologers can be hypocritical, saying that Astronomers' findings don't change their system. Ceres,Pallas,Juno, and Vesta were classed as planets for 40 years. Most astrologers don't include those objects as planets in their systems. Astronomers discovered Uranus,Neptune, and Pluto, and vast majority of Western astrologers use those objects in their systems. Therefore, astrologers have adapted to the discoveries of astronomers. It's just that they have been selective. It's like them choosing what's convenient for them to use and doesn't complicate their system. Western Astrologers are not much different from Vedic Astrologers in that way.

I believe it's a combination of physical science, social science,philosophy,religion, art,and language.

Why I think Minor Aspects Are Important

Why I think Minor Aspects are Important

I am well aware that a lot of people dismiss the minor aspects which are based on harmonics other than the 1st(conjunction),2nd(opposition,3rd(trine),4th(square),6th(sextile),and 12th(semisextile,quincunx) to be unimportant and that you can get all the information with just seeing the major aspects which are aspects that you can easily see because they are whole sign aspects. I don't agree with that at all. I feel that if we overlook the minor aspects, we will miss fine details. It would be like looking at a letter and not seeing the fine print. Some even say that it's the little mistakes that can end up biting you in the butt. One little fray in rope can get worse over a time and it can wear down and the rope can snap in two. That is same with erosion. One little rusted spot on metalic part of an airplane can lead to greater damage. Maybe I am looking at this in a Virgoan type away because I am looking at the trees. However, I am also looking at this in a Piscean type because I am looking at the forest too. I believe that we can miss the big picture,if we overlook the minor aspects...especially if they form aspect patterns or harmonic syndromes which is when planets of the same harmonic aspect each other to form a pattern. For example: A grand trine consists of 3 planets in trine to each other. A t-square is a 4th harmonic syndrome which consists of 2 planets in opposition(2/4)with a planet in square(1/4) to that opposition. A yod is a 12th harmonic syndrome which consists of 2 planets in sextile(2/12)with a planet quincunx(5/12) to that sextile. These form geometrical patterns that tend to be a dominant factor in the chart.

Subtle doesn't mean unimportant. Astronomers say that planets have too extremely subtle influences to affect us, but they  they have vibrational energy. The planets do affect us regardless of how far they away they are from us

It makes me think of cancer. Cancer is subtle, but it destroys cells in our body that can lead to destruction of tissue, organs, and organ system, and body parts.

We have chromosomes, genes, SNPs (Single-nucleotide polymorphisms), and cells that we can't see. They are very subtle ,but they are so important. The way I see harmonics is like our chromosomes, genes, SNPs, and cells. Just like all those chromosomes, genes, and SNPs combined make up the human body, all the harmonics combined can make up the chart.

Chromosomes, genes, and SNPs are linked to various disorders, conditions, and personality characteristic traits. I believe that hits on the harmonics can be linked to specific personality stuff. Therefore I see our natal charts like celestial DNA.

Our DNA can be altered very subtly through our environment and interactions with others as their energy fuses with ours reflected by synastry which is biological interaction aka chemistry. It's possible some people can be bad for our health. Maybe their energy can have an adverse effect on our energy. Maybe their presence cause disturbance in our biochemical makeup. Maybe their own conscious and unconscious thoughts can cause disturbance in our biochemical makeup if we are actually transceivers(both transmit and receive).

Maybe the harmonics in astrology can equate to the actual genes in our body. That's a whole bunch for that matter. Definitely every chromosome, gene, SNP is important. One defect can cause problems but they might be hard to detect. I believe in astrogenetics. I believe that maybe the key to looking at family heredity is through the harmonics.

People say that just looking at the basic stuff in the chart is the whole picture. I equate that to just examining the person by looking at their body parts and seeing how they move and interact with each other, but the body parts aren't the whole entire person. There is the inside of the human body that contain systems which are responsible for certain functions in our body. These organ systems consists of organs which consist of tissues which consist of cells. It is these things that help determine how the body functions. It's not just how the body is formed. We definitely can't tell most diseases from looking at the body. We look at the blood and look at the cells in the blood.

Energy particles are just as complex. Molecules are small particles that make up all living and nonliving things. We have more molecules in our body than our universe has stars. Molecules consist of atoms which consist of protons(positively charged particles)and electrons(negatively charged particles). The electrons and protons make me think of yin and yang which can be in many forms like Moon(yin) and Sun(yang), female(yin)and male(yang),negative integers(yin)and positive integers(yang), water, earth signs(yin)and fire, airsigns(yang),and so on. Yin and Yang energies complement each other even though they are opposing but when together, they become a whole like the northern hemisphere(yin) and southern hemisphere(yang) combine to make up the earth.

You definitely can't underestimate the little stuff. The splitting of the atom led to atomic fusion which made atomic bombs possible. Albert Einstein proved mathematically that atoms exist (in his Brownian motion paper) with the formula, E=mc² in which E = Energy, m = Mass, and c = The speed of light (a physical constant). In the 30's, Einstein wrote to President Roosevelt about the possibility of producing a weapon of mass destruction based on this equation.

When I see how powerful nuclear energy is,and that it results from tiny energy particles, it makes me wonder if overlooking the tiniest things in a chart is a good idea. Pluto, a planet that is said to rule nuclear power, is the smallest planet in our solar system. It is incredibly powerful planet despite its size with it being much smaller than our Earth's Moon. The effects of Pluto can be transforming to the point of devastating. Pluto has proven to be an underdog now with its demotion from planet to minor planet. I think that the so-called minor harmonic aspects are underdog aspects that actually raise some loud noise in spite of its subtle nature just like little Pluto, nuclear energy, and cancer. I believe that Albert Einstein's 9 minutes of arc Mercury septile (7th harmonic:mystical or a "beclouding effect,) Pluto helped him into unlocking the mysteries of the universe. It's very interesting that his Mercury was in a subtle aspect to the most subtle planet, and he understood one of the most subtle energy particles.
