Sun-Jupiter-Scheat-Markab conjunction in Right Ascension

On March 5th, 2022,  there will be a Sun-Jupiter conjunction in the constellation Aquarius which was the the Babylonian constellation The Great One (Gu-la) which represented Enki/Ea, The God of Waters and Wisdom.   It's not only a Sun-Jupiter conjunction.  It's also a Sun-Jupiter occultation. Sun and Jupiter conjunct in Right Ascension and parallel in Declination.  Sun and Jupiter transit the Upper Meridian together, Rise together, and Set together.

Jupiter at solar conjunction

Jupiter will pass close to the Sun in the sky as its orbit carries it around the far side of the solar system from the Earth.

At closest approach, Jupiter will appear at a separation of only 0°05' from the Sun, making it totally unobservable for several weeks while it is lost in the Sun's glare.

At around the same time, Jupiter will also be at its most distant from the Earth – receding to a distance of 6.21 AU – since the two planets will lie on opposite sides of the solar system.

If Jupiter could be observed at this time, it would appear at its smallest and faintest on account of its large distance. It would measure 31.0 arcsec in diameter.

Conjunction
by Dominic Ford, Editor

A conjunction is an event when two or more astronomical bodies share the same right ascension.

In common parlance, the term is often also used to refer to any close groupings of objects. However, the technical term for such groupings is an appulse, which may or may not also be a conjunction.

As the Moon and planets move along the ecliptic at different speeds, they pass each other from time to time. In some cases this is extremely rare: Uranus and Neptune, for example, move very slowly, taking 84 and 165 years respectively to make a complete circuit through the constellations. As a result, conjunctions between the two planets only happen once every 171 years.

The Moon on the other hand moves much faster, and passes conjunction with every planet roughly once a month.
The planets are usually separated by no more than a few degrees when they are in conjunction. The planets all orbit the Sun in almost the same plane, which means that they all closely follow a common line across the sky – the ecliptic.

The Moon has a different orbital plane, however, and can deviate by up to 5° from the ecliptic. Thus, the Moon can be in conjunction with the planets without being at all close to them.

There are also stars that are involved.     They are Markab and Scheat.

Sun, Jupiter, Markab, and Scheat will be in conjunction in Right Ascension and Transit together.

Markab and Scheat are the Alpha and Beta stars of the constellation Pegasus named after the winged horse who was born from Medusa's head after Perseus killed her.  Pegasus helped Bellerophon killed the Chimaera.  Bellerophon tried to get Pegasus to carry him to Mount Olympus, but Pegasus threw Belerophon off him leading to him being crippled.

Markab and Scheat, Gamma Pegasus Algenib, and Alpha Andromeda Alpheratz form The Square of Pegasus which was the Babylonian constellation , The Field (As-Gan) which was associated with Enki/Ea.  The Field was a depiction of the Abyss aka Apsu which was where Enki/Ea resided.

Alpha Pegasi (α Pegasi, abbreviated Alpha Pegα Peg), formally named Markab /ˈmɑːrkæb/,[11][12] is the third-brightest star in the constellation of Pegasus and one of the four stars in the asterism known as the Great Square of Pegasus.

Beta Pegasi (β Pegasi, abbreviated Beta Pegβ Peg), formally named Scheat /ˈʃæt/,[11][12] is a red giant star and the second-brightest star (after Epsilon Pegasi) in the constellation of Pegasus. It forms the upper right corner of the Great Square of Pegasus,[13] a prominent rectangular asterism.

Field (The Square of Pegasus) The Field represents a barley field divided by a series of irrigation ditches. The constellation rises as the barley is regularly irrigated and starts to ripen. In astrology its omens naturally foretell the nature of the coming harvest.

The following is from Bernadette Brady's book, Star and Planet Combinations:

Markab, the saddle of Pegasus, to be stable

This star is the saddle of Pegasus and represents great solidness and reliability, a point of steadiness or the power to maintain stability under pressure. This could be a beneficial contact, giving one leadership skills and the ability to handle crisis, or it could twist the other way and manifest as a certain stubbornness and a refusal to move or consider other options. If Markab is placed in a chart, it offers as a resource the power to maintain stability under pressure. To be solid and tangible.

Sun - A person who is consistent in their beliefs, an unchanging person; to be seen as stubborn or strong-willed. A strong, persistent leader takes control.

Jupiter - The teacher/philosopher, in sport or in spiritual discipline. One's small actions become the basis for much larger products. The wise person; the need for consistency in the law

The Principle of  Scheat, a love of intellect, a searcher for truth

This star is part of the Great Square of Pegasus. The square, in ancient cultures, represented the intellect, the knowing rather than the knowing. Intuition, on the other hand, was symbolized as circular. As a part of this sky-square, Scheat appears to represent the essence of intellect. Depending on the planet with which is paran, Scheat indicates a love of intellect and the challenge of logic in one's life, in service for the search of truth. This star denotes a free thinking and independent person who will have a need to break with conventional thought or philosophy.

Sun - Headstrong; an independent thinker. Pursuing one's ideas or one's version of truth without regard to others. A time when unusual, or independent ideas are voiced

Jupiter - The theologian or sports person who is teaching a moral code. To value education all its institutions. A period where religious leaders speak out

Bernadette Brady points out that sky-square represents the essence of intellect. I find that very interesting because The Square of Pegasus was The Field and associated with Enki/Ea who was the God of the Waters and Wisdom.  Ea/Enki was also the god that was represented by The Great One which became Aquarius.

Placements in Aquarius in Sidereal Zodiac are intellectual but not because it's an air sign which was not the case in Babylonian Astrology which did not have the concepts of elements. The Babylonian division of the zodiac signs into four groups of three were not based on the four elements but the four winds. Placements in Aquarius are intellectual because of the connection with Enki/Ea. Considering that Enki/Ea was The God of Water, Sidereal Aquarius is intellectual with emotional depth. Sidereal Aquarius would seem to have Aquarius-Pisces hybrid characteristics. Of course, most of the Aquarius constellation is in Pisces in the tropical zodiac.  For example,  my Moon is in 8°49' Aquarius in Sidereal Zodiac and in 3°11' Pisces in Tropical Zodiac. It's in the same spot as Theta Aquarius Ancha at the hip of Aquarius constellation.

None of the astrologers that written books on fixed stars and constellations have noted that the Aquarius constellation represented Enki/Ea even though it's noted in astronomical sites. Gavin White did note it in his book, Babylonian Star-lore.

In Mesopotamian Mythology, Enki/Ea seemed like a combination of Poseidon/Neptune and Prometheus.

Lord of the abzu
The god Ea (whose Sumerian equivalent was Enki) is one of the three most powerful gods in the Mesopotamian pantheon, along with Anu and Enlil. He resides in the ocean underneath the earth called the abzu (Akkadian apsû), which was an important place in Mesopotamian cosmic geography. For example, the city of Babylon was said to have been built on top of the abzu.

Sumerian texts about Enki often include overtly sexual portrayals of his virile masculinity. In particular, there is a metaphorical link between the life-giving properties of the god's semen and the animating nature of fresh water from the abzu. Until recently, however, many of the more explicit details have been suppressed in modern translations (see Cooper 1989Dickson 2007).

Incantations, wisdom and cleaners
Ea has associations with wisdom, magic and incantations. He was a favourite god amongst diviners TT  (bārû) and exorcist priests TT  (ašipū) as he is the ultimate source of all ritual knowledge used by exorcists to avert and expel evil. Ea was patron of the arts and crafts, and all other achievements of civilization. His connection with water meant that Ea was also the patron deity of cleaners (Foster 2005: 151-152).

Creator and protector of humanity
Ea is the creator and protector of humanity in the Babylonian flood myth Atra-hasīs and the Epic of Gilgameš. He hatched a plan to create humans out of clay so that they could perform work for the gods. But the supreme god Enlil attempted to destroy Ea's newly created humans with a devastating flood, because their never-ending noise prevented him from sleeping. But clever Ea foresaw Enlil's plan; he instructed a sage TT  named Atrahasis to build an ark so that humanity could escape the destruction.

Iconography

Ea is depicted in Mesopotamian art as a bearded god who wears a horned cap and long robes. Cylinder seals TT  often picture him surrounded by a flowing stream with fish swimming inside it representing the subterranean waters of the abzu [Images 1 & 2]. Others depict him inside his underwater home in the abzu, or his E-abzu shrine. (Black and Green 1998: 76; Kramer and Maier 1989: 121-123).

Wall reliefs from Ninurta's temple in the Neo-Assyrian city of Kalhu showing figures cloaked in the skin of a fish were (incorrectly) assumed to be representations of Ea during the early twentieth century. These images actually represent the apkallu sages that dwelt in the abzu with Ea, who sometimes took a form that was half-man and half-fish [Image 3].

Ea's symbols include a curved sceptre with a ram's head, a goat-fish TT  and a turtle [image 4] (Black and Green 1998: 179). The Sumerian poem Ninurta and the Turtle (ETCSL 1.6.3) describes how Enki created a turtle from the clay of the abzu to help him recover the stolen tablet of destinies, which controls humanity's future. The tablet was stolen by an evil bird-like demon named Anzu, but the hero Ninurta won it back. Ninurta, however, decided to keep it for himself rather than return it to Enki. Yet the ever-cunning Enki thwarted Ninurta's ambitions by creating a turtle that grabbed Ninurta by the heel, dug a pit with its claws and dragged the overambitious hero into it. Though the story is incomplete, presumably the tablet was returned to Enki, and Ninurta was taught a valuable lesson regarding the corrupting nature of power.
